Chichester Creative Network’s literature fans will probably be aware that our local library has recently closed for three weeks to undergo some refurbishments, including the installation of a self-service unit to make borrowing books even easier.

To celebrate the re-opening Chichester Library has planned a fantastic line-up of literary events for November, including talks with crime-writer Sophie Hannah and local history-writer Stella Rutter. Here’s a bit more info about the upcoming events:

Stella Rutter – ‘Who Goes Where’?
Thursday 10th November, 7.30pm (Military History Month)
Local resident Stella Rutter discusses her book Who Goes Where, in which the author reveals in detail the true account of an event which took place before the invasion of Normandy on D-Day

Early in World War II Stella Rutter was employed on Whale Island in the Drawing Office from which she was seconded to Supermarine to design of the Spitfire.

Allan Mallins - On His Majestys ServiceAn Evening with Allan Mallinson
Tuesday 15th November, 7.30pm (Military History Month)
Best- selling historical author Allan Mallinson will be at Chichester Library to discuss his writing, his interest in military history and his most recent book On his Majesty’s Service.

Allan Mallinson served in the Army throughout the world and has a keen interest in military history. His first book published was a history of his regiment in 1992 and from there he found this way into fiction. His first work of fiction was published in 1999 and since then he has completed 11 books in the series, including A Call to Arms, A Company of Spears and Warrior.

Allan also regularly writes for national newspapers and magazines including The Times and the Spectator.

Steaming Through Sussex
Tuesday 22nd November, 7.30pm
A lively Illustrated talk on the Social History of Sussex using railways as a platform with Assistant County Archivist Bill Gage.

Sophie Hannah - Lasting DamageAn Evening with Sophie Hannah
Thursday 24th November, 7.30pm
Internationally best-selling author of psychological crime thrillers such as Little Face, A Room Swept White and most recently Lasting Damage will be talking about her writing at Chichester Library.
