Featuring poets Mario Petrucci and Liz Adams, plus Open Mic Poetry

Come along to Chichester Library on Thursady 29th September to celebrate National Poetry Day one week early. You can enjoy readings from Chichester born poet Liz Adams as well as top award-winning poet Mario Petrucci. Liz is launching her new collection, Green Dobermans, and Mario Petrucci, acclaimed as one of our best living writers, will read from i tulips and his televised film-poem, Heavy Water.

Mario PetrucciMario Petrucci’s film-poem, Heavy Water, was broadcast on national television earlier this year when the Japanese tsunami struck, as it deals with the similar nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl. An ecologist as well as a poet, Mario has won multiple poetry awards, gaining the prestigious Bridport prize, TheLondon poetry prize and, for his poetry on nuclear environmental disaster, the Daily Telegraph/Arvon prize.

Petrucci has been showered with critical plaudits. Literati Magazine called him ‘a 21st century renaissance man’ and ‘one of the best poets of our time’. As well as bringing cutting edge poetry to national television, he has been writer in residence for BBC Radio 3 and the National War Museum.

 

 

 

Liz AdamsJoining Mario on the platform will be Chichester born Liz Adams, who was educated at Bishop Luffa School. Liz will be launching her first full poetry collection, Green Dobermans (Lazy Gramophone press). She is currently busy writing the libretto for an exciting new musical work to be performed this year atLondon’s Wigmore Hall, one of the capital’s top concert halls.

PLUS Open Mic Poetry!

Chichesterwriters will get the chance to read their poetry in the Open Mic section of the evening as part of the celebration of the best in current poetry on a national and local level. Writers are asked to bring along poems on any subject and in any style, traditional or modern, to share with a sympathetic audience.

Blending with the well-chosen words will be musical interludes played by local performers, while a complimentary glass of wine should help the conversation flow in the interval, when Mario and Liz will be available to sign copies of their poetry books.
