Replica Dance Company are a fresh and exciting company, who specialise in performance and education work. The company are based in Chichester but work across the South and South West of England. The company has now been running successfully for a year by its artistic directors Thomas Pickard and Hannily Bendell. The directors, who also choreograph, teach and dance in the company, met whilst completing their MA in Dance Performance and touring nationally with MAPdance.
The company fuse balletic and contemporary dance styles and their pieces are narrative based, aiming to make their work accessible to new and experienced audiences. The company are inspired by historical accounts, creating a strong, vintage look and style.
Replica created their debut work, “No Fickle Promises” (2010), which has been toured across the South coast and they are completing their second piece, “Happening” (2011) with Hampshire Dance Artist, Liz Richards. The piece has been selected to be performed at Pavilion Dance, Bounemouth, The Point, Eastleigh and Exeter Fringe Festival as well as the possibility to take it further afield into Europe.
In June, the company will be spending a week at Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth as part of their residency to research and begin creating their new work, which will be premièred at the Pavillion’s birthday weekend later this year.
Replica have been conducting a schools tour across the South of England delivering workshops and performances in schools and colleges. Director of Embody dance, Emma Breeze, commented that the “workshop was perfectly gauged to the group’s ability and mixed age range. I would recommend Replica anytime!” The company are planning to build their education unit and create a West Sussex Junior Youth Dance Company from September.
The company are passionate about providing performance opportunities in and around the region, and they are currently in talks to collaborate with other professional dance artists in the South East to curate dance platforms.
“We really believe in our company and are thrilled that it has begun to take off and we look forward to what next year brings”. Artistic Director Hannily Bendell

I have seen Replica perform many times and love them. Both Hannily and Tom are talented dancers, teachers and choreographers. They dance as though they are one. Congratulations on your first year! Here’s to many more!
