A Local Perspective: A collection of images taken at the CASS Sculpture Estate at Goodwood.
For quite some time, I had been meaning to visit the CASS Sculpture Estate at Goodwood, so in May I did. I went with my friend Rona, a fellow photgraphy enthuisiast. It took some time to find (always pays to actually look at the directions on the website first), we did eventually find it…and patiently waited for the place to open whilst admiring the views. (again, closer scrutiny of the website would have been useful).
The Sculpture Estate at Goodwood is curated and maintained by the Cass Sculpture Foundation, a charitable organisation that since its establishment in 1992, has annually commissioned 20 exemplary monumental sculptures from emerging and established contemporary sculptors.
It started out as a glorious sunny day, which became progressively darker and colder. Sadly, this meant we were unable to shoot as many of the works of art as we intended, as many are installed deep within the woods, which adds considerably to the ambiance. The sculptures all fall with the modern and contemporary genre, some small (I say that loosely) and some fairly monumental. They are all without doubt in their own unique, quirky, and surreal way, beautiful. Unfortunately, we were unable to shoot all the works of art there as it just got too dark, and as many are surrounded by trees, there was insufficient light. We also tried to approach our subjects from a less traditional view, and incorporate an ‘abstract’ perspective, a style and approach which the diverse shapes and forms of the sculptures lent themselves easily.
The location is out of the way, but, if you are in the neighbourhood of Chichester/Goodwood, then I suggest you grab a camera, and get yourself down there. The rest of the shots I took that day can be found HERE.
